Important summary for our primary sales markets: United States, Germany, France, Canada, Australia. No federal US law prohibits owning katana swords at home, however statelevel, citylevel local restrictions vary heavily. It is buyer’s full responsibility to verify local rules before checkout.

   🇺🇸 United States of America

  1. Federal: No nationwide ban on ownership of samurai swords for private home collection.
  2. Local restrictions you must check before buying:
  • California: Home ownership is permitted; many local city ordinances restrict open public carry of sheathed swords; concealed carry of bladed weapons is prohibited statewide. Canestyle hidden swords are banned.
  • Massachusetts: Strict local knife / blade statutes apply; local municipal rules may limit bladelength or public carry.
  • New York / New York City: NYC local regulations heavily restrict public carry of long blades even for collection items. Private inhome ownership may be allowed, but public transport is subject to strict rules.
  • Other states (Texas, Arizona, Ohio etc): Home ownership generally legal, but public carry may be restricted in schools, hospitals, government buildings, bars and churches, even if opencarry is otherwise allowed in the state.

⚠️ Important note: We will cancel orders if shipping destination addresses are located within jurisdictions with known local prohibitions. Public opencarry of sharpened swords is almost never permitted across US cities.

  1. US Customs: All imported goods are subject to CBP inspection. Import duty and brokerage fees may apply to all incoming shipments.

🇩🇪 Germany

Swords are classified as weapons under German Weapons Act: ✅ Private ownership for collectors & martialart practitioners is legal at home. ❌ Public transport / carrying swords in public requires a valid legitimate purpose (e.g. travelling to martialarts training). 🇫🇷 France

Swords are categorized as CategoryD weapons under French law:

  • Adult private ownership for collection is legal within private premises.
  • Any public transport or public carrying requires justified professional / collecting purpose; random public carry is forbidden. You must comply with local prefecture rules.

🇨🇦 Canada

No federal prohibition for collecting katana swords for home display. Age requirement: minimum 18 years old.

  • Import clearance is required. Buyer shall pay all applicable duties and taxes.

🇦🇺 Australia

Rules differ significantly for each Australian state:

  1. Victoria: Swords are classified as Prohibited Weapons. To import or own katana you must obtain a Prohibited Weapon Permit, you need genuine reason (martialarts membership / serious collecting). Import without valid permit will result in seizure by Australian Border Force.
  2. New South Wales, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia: Home ownership generally allowed for adults, but public carry in all Australian states is illegal. Some states may request proof of genuine collecting purpose during customs clearance.

General Customs Reminders for All Countries

  1. Import permission at customs does **NOT equal legal right to carry in public space inside destination country. Customs clearance only allows goods to enter territory; local weapon laws still apply after import.
  2. If customs seizes your parcel for violation of local weapon rules, all losses are borne by purchaser, and no refund shall be issued.
